Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q:  What is the timeline to receive my license once the application is submitted?

A: Once all requested documentation has been received, the State Board of Architects and Landscape Architects must review the application file. This will be done at the next scheduled board meeting after your application file is complete.  You will receive written notice of the board’s decision after that review.

Q:  I am licensed in another state as an Architect. What do I have to do to become licensed in the State of Idaho?

A:  You must complete the application for licensure by endorsement.  Send this application along with the $50.00 endorsement fee, to the Division of Occupational and Professional Licenses.  If you hold an NCARB record, you must also notify NCARB and instruct them to send your NCARB record to the Division. If you are not going to use your NCARB, you will need to have the state you are licensed in provide a verification of licensure to the Division.

Q:  I am applying for licensure in another state, and they require verification of my license in Idaho. What do I need to do?

A:  If you wish to receive an Official Certification of license status, a written request must be submitted to the Division together with the required $10.00 fee. Free primary source verification of license/registration status may be obtained via the web at https://dopl.idaho.gov. Click on Search for a license. These certifications contain all public information.

Each state requires different forms of certification of licensure. Please check with the state where you are applying to see what is required before requesting certification from Idaho. Certifications can be obtained two ways from Idaho as noted above.

Q:  Can I apply for a temporary permit to practice Architecture in the State of Idaho while I am waiting to receive my Idaho license?

A:  No. The temporary permit allows a person to only offer to render architectural services in the State of Idaho.  You must hold an active Idaho Architect License to practice Architect in the State of Idaho.

Q: I am an architect intern, where do I go to register for my exam?

A: Registration can be completed on NCARB’s website by clicking here.

Q:  I am licensed in another state as a Landscape Architect.  What do I have to do to become licensed in the State of Idaho?

A:  You must complete the application for licensure by endorsement.  Send this application along with the $75.00 application fee, $125.00 original licensure fee, and supporting documentation outlined on the application to the Division of Occupational and Professional Licenses.  If you hold a CLARB council record, you must also notify CLARB and instruct them to transmit your CLARB council record to the Board. You may also have the state you are licensed in provide a verification of licensure showing passing scores for the LARE.

Q: What is the timeline to receive my license once the application is submitted?

A:  If you have already submitted an application and are needing to provide additional documents, a status letter will go out.

If your application is under review by the Board, you can check the License Search on the Division’s website at https://dopl.idaho.gov by only entering your name. If a license has been issued, it will appear on the website and an original wall certificate and license card are mailed out. The database updates after 6 p.m. daily. The Board tries to issue licenses within 30 days.

Q: Are there specifications on what my Idaho Landscape Architects seal should include?

A: Yes, the seal specifications can be found under Idaho Code 54-3003(9)(b)(i).

A: Yes, please click here.

Q: How do candidates register for the Landscape Architect Registration Examination (LARE)?

A: All candidates register for the exam via the Council of Landscape Architectural Registration Boards (CLARB) website.

CLARB evaluates the candidate’s eligibility to sit for the exam and is not required to obtain prior approval. Once the candidate’s eligibility is confirmed, they are given instructions on how to register for the exam by CLARB.
