Rules of the Board of Naturopathic Health Care will be effective July 1, 2024. Starting on that date, the Board will be able to receive applications for the licensure and registration of naturopaths.
Thursday April 11, 2024In its 2024 Session, the Idaho Legislature adopted the Rules of the Board of Naturopathic Health Care, IDAPA 24.40.01. These rules will be effective July 1, 2024. Starting on that date, the Board will be able to receive applications for the licensure and registration of naturopaths.
The Legislature also amended the qualifications for licensure as a naturopathic doctor under Idaho Code § 54-5905. Under that amended statute, an applicant must:
- Possess a current, valid, and unrestricted license in any state, district, or territory of the United States in any of the following professions:
- Medical doctor or doctor of osteopathy;
- Podiatrist;
- Dentist;
- Chiropractor with a doctoral degree in chiropractic medicine; or
- Nurse with a doctoral degree in nursing and training and experience equivalent to an advanced practice registered nurse.
- Obtain a certificate of completion of a naturopathic doctor curriculum of at least 160 hours from an accredited institution; and
- Complete one (or more) of the following:
- At least four (4) years of experience in the practice of naturopathy;
- Pass an Idaho state naturopathic examination showing minimum competency; or
- Pass a national board examination that certifies minimum competency in the practice of naturopathy.
The qualifications for registration as a naturopath remain the same.
The application for licensure or registration as a naturopath will be posted on this site on or before July 1, 2024. Instructions for filing will accompany that application. The Board invites all qualified and interested applicants to apply for licensure or registration as naturopaths beginning July 1, 2024.
