Education & Certification Policy
The Commission’s Education & Certification Policy outlines the requirements for offering real estate education in Idaho. Prospective and current instructors are expected to be familiar with and abide by the information contained in this policy to maintain certification.
Teaching Elective Courses
If you only want to teach continuing education elective courses, you do not have to be a certified instructor.
Any elective courses you teach must be certified and offered through a certified provider. The provider may ask you to complete a form documenting your qualifications to teach the course material and/or request you provide a resume or other documentation to support your knowledge of the subject. You can find more information about this process by clicking on the course certification button.
Teaching DOPL Provided Real Estate Courses
The DOPL provided real estate classes are any salesperson and broker prelicense courses, salesperson post license courses, and Idaho Commission Core courses. To instruct any of these courses, you must first be certified to do so by the Commission.
Instructor applicants must observe the entire course, pass the most recent version of the final course exam, and student teach the course material before being certified to teach that course. Separate instructor certification is required for each DOPL provided real estate course you wish to teach.
Certified instructors must attend IDW or its equivalent at least every other year to obtain and maintain instructor certification.
After the required items are completed, you may apply for certification through DOPL’s Online Services under the “Apply for a License/Registration/Permit” tab.

The 2025 Real Estate Instructor Conference is scheduled for March 12 and 13, 2025. Location details are coming soon!
