Apply for or Renew a License

The Idaho Board of Morticians has two license types (Mortician and Funeral Director), please be sure you are using the application form for the license type you are seeking. The primary distinguishing factor between the two is that Funeral Directors are not allowed to care for, prepare or embalm a dead human body. Please see Idaho Code 54-1102(19) and 54-1102(11) for more information on the scope of practice for each license type.

ONLINE LICENSE RENEWAL

If you fail to renew your licenses, permits, or certificates before its expiration date a reinstatement penalty of  $250.00 will be required and cannot be waived.  The reinstatement penalty is in addition to the renewal fee. You may be required to submit continuing education or other required documentation prior to the reinstatement of your license, permit, or certificate.

Please complete your renewal application and payment of fees through the ONLINE renewal system. There are no additional fees for this service. Documents, if required, may be uploaded when you renew.  If you have questions, please contact renewal@dopl.idaho.gov or 208-577-2627.

For your license to remain valid, it must be renewed before the expiration date each year.  Remember that you must have an active license to practice in the state of Idaho.

As a courtesy, license renewal reminders are mailed to your mailing address of record approximately six (6) weeks before the license expiration date. If you do not receive a renewal notice, you can still renew online and update your address if needed. You are responsible to timely renew your license whether you receive a renewal notice or not.

Please note that CREMATORY (CRE) licenses will not be renewed until the appropriate funeral establishment license has been renewed.

CERTIFICATES OF AUTHORITY (FCA) will not be renewed until the appropriate establishment license has been renewed.   FCA renewal requests must include the annual Certified Audit Report as required by Section 54-1134(3), Idaho Code.
