Architect Registration Examination (ARE®)
Effective July 1, 2024, Idaho licensure candidates will not be subject to the five-year rolling clock when taking divisions of the Architect Registration Examination® (ARE®). Instead, candidates will test under NCARB’s new policy.
Score Validity Policy
When Idaho adopts the score validity policy, NCARB will reinstate previously expired, eligible ARE 4.0 and ARE 5.0 divisions and remove the rolling clock for unexpired passed ARE 5.0 divisions for Idaho candidates. Divisions passed in ARE 3.1 or earlier versions will remain expired. Note: These changes may take two to three weeks after the policy goes into effect to appear in your NCARB Record. Explore the Score Validity Policy.
When testing in ARE 5.0, you no longer need to apply for rolling clock extensions for any life events, such as the birth or adoption of a child, serious illness or injury, etc.

License Renewal
Please complete your renewal application and payment of fees through the Online Renewal System. There are no additional fees for this service. Documents, if required, may be uploaded when you renew. If you have questions, please contact BCRErenewals@dopl.idaho.gov or 208-577-2535.
For your license to remain valid, it must be renewed before the expiration date each year. You cannot practice on an expired license.
Active members of the military may be eligible for a waiver of renewal fees and other renewal requirements; see Idaho Code 67-2606.
Please note: If you fail to renew your license before its expiration date a reinstatement fee will be required by Idaho Code 67-2614 and cannot be waived. In addition, you may be required to submit continuing education or other required documentation prior to the reinstatement of your license. Licenses that have not been renewed after 5 years will be terminated and a new application and fees will need to be submitted for Board review.
