Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC)
If you declare Idaho as your primary state of residence, you will be issued an Idaho multi-state license. If you change your state of residence to another state, you are directed to contact that state’s Board of Nursing and request a new license within 60 days of moving. If your new state of residence is a member of the Compact, your Idaho license will become invalid upon issuance of your new multi-state license. If your new state of residence is not a member of the Compact, you will be issued a single state Idaho license valid only for practice in Idaho.
The National Council of State Boards of Nursing’s Website provides the most up-to-date information on states that have implemented the Nurse Licensure Compact at https://www.ncsbn.org/
Renewal
The LPN license renewal period is June 1st through August 31st in even-numbered years. The renewal application is available in the Nurse Portal on June 1st.
The RN and APRN license renewal period is May 1st through August 31st in odd-numbered years. The renewal application is available in the Nurse Portal on May 1st.
If your Idaho nursing license is not renewed by August 31 of your renewal year, it will automatically become inactive and a reinstatement application including a fingerprint-based background check will be required if you wish to have an active license. If you continue to practice nursing in Idaho with an expired license, an administrative fine may be assessed.
