Application
Licensure Application Process
Idaho law requires the licensure of all persons who practice or offer to practice psychology in the State of Idaho. Licensure is available through both endorsement and examination. All applicants must certify under oath that they have reviewed and will abide by the laws, rules, and ethics governing the practice of psychology.
In order to obtain a license to practice psychology in Idaho, a completed application, fees and appropriate documents must be submitted to the Board.
Idaho Licensed psychologists may also extend their services through the use of Service Extenders.

If you are a member of the armed forces, an honorably discharged veteran or the spouse of an active member or veteran of the military, you are entitled to certain benefits because of your service. Those benefits may include expedited processing of your application and credit for military training that is relevant to the occupational license/registration for which you are applying. Additionally, active members of the military may be eligible for a waiver of renewal fees and other renewal requirements.
If you have questions, please contact the Division at (208) 334-3233 or PSY@dopl.idaho.gov.
Renewal
IF YOU HAVE NOT YET MET THE CONTINUING EDUCATION REQUIREMENT, DO NOT SUBMIT A RENEWAL INDICATING THAT YOU HAVE. Submitting a fraudulent application for licensure is grounds for discipline against your license.
Please complete your renewal application and payment of fees through the ONLINE renewal system. There are no additional fees for this service. Documents, if required, may be uploaded when you renew. If you have questions, please contact renewal@dopl.idaho.gov or 208-577-2627.
For your license to remain valid, it must be renewed before the expiration date each year. You cannot practice on an expired license.
As a courtesy, license renewal reminders are mailed to your mailing address of record approximately six (6) weeks before the license expiration date. If you do not receive a renewal notice, you can still renew online and update your address if needed. You are responsible to timely renew your license whether you receive a renewal notice or not.
Active members of the military may be eligible for a waiver of renewal fees and other renewal requirements; see Idaho Code 67-2602A.
Please note: If you fail to renew your license before its expiration date a reinstatement fee will be required by Idaho Code 67-2614 and cannot be waived. In addition, you may be required to submit continuing education or other required documentation prior to the reinstatement of your license.
Service Extender Renewals
As a part of the current renewal period, the Board would like to draw your attention to the rules governing the employment of psychology service extenders.
Please note that licensed psychologists who utilize service extenders must comply with the rules for registering them with the Board within thirty days after employment. Additionally, the Board must be notified, in writing, within thirty days of the termination of the employment of any service extender. Of particular concern at this renewal time is the impact of Board Rule 450.03. “Conditions for Use of Service Extenders.” This rule specifically addresses the requirements for any psychologist who utilizes service extenders.
Documentation of supervisory contact, hours of supervision, hours of extender services, and plan of supervision shall be maintained by the supervisor for not less than three (3) years for each service extender and submitted to the Board upon request.
The Board recommends that supervisors make weekly supervisory notes and keep an annual supervisory log as aids in meeting the reporting requirements.
PLEASE BE ADVISED, ANY FAILURE TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF THIS RULE COULD RESULT IN LOSS OF YOUR ABILITY TO UTILIZE SERVICE EXTENDERS AND/OR THE FILING OF A DISCIPLINARY PROCEEDING AGAINST YOUR LICENSE.
